Keshi Dismisses Match Fixing Claims, Says We Are Footballers

Scotland manager Gordon Stratchan initiated the friendly undertone to Wednesdays two-all draw with Nigeria, by presenting a brandy with the phrase Famous Keshi encrusted on it to his counterpart Stephen Keshi at the Cottage, moments before kick-off. Keshi, 52, was particularly startled at the former Celtic boss gesture, after receiving the gift and wished he could reciprocate it immediately. This is true friendship in football and we all, especially Nigerians must start to imbibe this type of gesture, Keshi said.

A Nigerian Supporter Echoes Coach Stephen Keshis Intuitions Prior to Kick-Off at Craven Cottage.

He added: Imagine a fellow coach branding my name in a drink. It has never happened in my entire life, please help me thank him. Uche Nwofors late strike earned the African champions the deserved draw after Charlie Mulgrew and an Azubuike Egwuekwe own-goal had gifted the Tartan Army the lead, in-between Michael Uchebos first-half strike. Keshi later took his time to dismiss match-fixing claims, alleged prior to kick-off of the World Cup warm-up. The Daily Telegraph reported a day to the friendly that the National Crime Agency (NCA) were investigating the second meeting between both nations. Keshi said after the draw: We did [talk about it] because its something ridiculous, something that we dont know where its coming from. Were not gamblers, we are football players. I dont even know where that is coming from, we dont know what happened, match-fixing or no match-fixing. This is the first time Ive been a coach or been a player and the first time Im hearing this, match-fixing. I dont think it had anything to do with our build-up or the game. Nigeria departs for their World Cup training camp in Houston, Texas on Thursday. They will play further friendly internationals against Greece and the United States before getting down to business in Brazil. The Eagles will play Iran, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Argentina in Group F of next months tournament.

Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City, Chelsea.. in that order next season- [Femi’s column]

Aaron Ramsey can lead Arsenal to success next season

After the World Cup is done and dusted, Barclays Premier League football is back in August and I can assume Football hardcore fans like me cant wait.

With that, I orchestrated in an ascending order, my predictions for next season.

6- Tottenham: Spurs would be approaching next season with a new manager. I find it weird that a team like Tottenham who are aspiring for a top four finish next season, would appoint an untested manager as Maurinho Pocheitto for that task. Make no mistake Mauricio Pochettino is a top coach. His drive and interest for young players has seen talents like Luke Shaw, Adam Lallana and many more grow into players who have potentials to be world-class players in the future. And Daniel Levy, Spurs owner, felt it would be logical to appoint him to help facilitate the growth of their young new signings, and also secure a Champions League position they have been fighting for years.

However, a manager who has European football experience in his CV should be the man to take over at a club forcing a top four berth.

5- Everton: The toffees, guided by a fine coach in Roberto Martinez, finished on a high last season. Their determination almost saw them cement a surprising fourth spot, but experience is vital, and its no surprise they stuttered. After failing to secure a champions league spot the previous campaign, Everton would be fighting again for that golden four prize.

Unfortunately, its going to be a different new season. Manchester United have got an experienced new manager in them; Chelsea are interested in the title after an appalling season; Manchester City are title contenders and Liverpool and Arsenal are strong favorites to win the league next season. Its hard to see where Everton fits. Luckily, an Europa League berth is realistic for them.

4- Manchester United: Last seasons trauma cant go away quickly.

Alex Ferguson entrusted David Moyes with a big job to retain the League title for United. A job he failed to do. And culminated to the theater of dreams becoming a nightmare ground; mockery from rival fans; players uninterested of their duties- Manchester United finished 7th last season.

Now Louis van Gaal is entrusted to help ameliorate the damages created by Moyes, and also make Manchester United title contenders again. But it would be too much of a ask for a 21th league title.

LVG still needs to install his principles, and the players need to now adopt and practice. The future is bright for Manchester United football club, but next season would see them fighting for fourth sport with Everton.

3- Manchester City: Rapidly becoming English power horse, City look determined to make a mark in the 21st century. Determination, team spirit, depth, resilience were some of the key factors to their success last seson.

The game at Anfield in the previous season illustrated what Pellegirinis men can do. In a difficult stadium surrounded by a carnival like Liverpool supporters who can make playing life hell for the away team, Manchester City, being title favorites, were stunned when they conceded 2 goals in the first half.

However, despite all odds against them; with Liverpool fans booing at every slightest chance, the boys from Manchester equalized and began dominating the game and missed series of clear-cut chances for a third. Albeit, an howler from Kompany saw the home team secure all three points from a curling effort from Countinho. Still, there were more positives than negatives for Manchester City in that game.

They would continue to possess that title contenders birth mark next season, a 3rd spot looks the most for them though.

2- Liverpool: Liverpool faithful must have been delighted when Brendan Rogers announced a new deal.

A replicate of last season certainly would take center stage next season. Had Steven Gerrad not slipped in a somewhat abhorrent fashion, Liverpool would have capped a remarkable season with a trophy.

Throwing away a two goal-lead at Crystal Palace in a title defining match described a team without experience. I still find it lacking for them next season.

Furthermore, if Livepool fail to keep hold of their talisman Luis Suarez, the odds would be against them next season. A second place finish next season is my prediction.

1- Arsenal: There is so much to say about Arsene Wengers side. A nine-year trophy drought ended in an effulgent fashion as Arsenal came from two goals to win 3-2 in a pulsating Fa Cup final. In the League, they were top of the table for a long period but injuries to key players saw them slip down the drain. Next season however, with vital summer signings, Arsenal are a dangerous force to reckon with.

I remember last season, I read a piece by Gary Neville for the Daily Mail. In it, he explained that the Arsenal boys needed a trophy celebration to bring them close, and togetherness would be necessary for a team that wants to win.

Well the Fa cup triumph would certainly become a catalyst for success for the Gunners.

Aaron Ramsey, who has been a revelation is most likely to become a key player for Arsenal next season.

If they can keep their key players fit, coupled with new signings and belief, the sky is the limit for the NorthLondon tribe.

France defender Bacary Sagna looks set to join Manchester City after confirming he will leave Arsenal this summer.

“It’s no longer a secret, I will leave Arsenal for sure. They tried to make an effort, but the discussions have not gone in the direction I wished it. There are a lot of calls, a lot of speculation. Frankly, it gives headaches. I’ll sort it all out before the start of the World Cup.

An official Italian Football Association (FIGC) investigation, has ruled that Lazios midfielder Joseph Minala did not lie about his age.

Minalas real age became a subject of debate in February, after an African football website stated that the Cameroonian was 42 instead of the 17 he claims to be.

The accusation prompted the FIGC to initiate an official investigation, which saw him questioned by the leagues federal prosecutor.

Ronaldo develops Thigh problem

Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo has been hit by a thigh problem as Portugal continue their preparations for this summers World Cup in Brazil.

The 29-year-old overcame a hamstring complaint to play in Real Madrids Champions League final victory over Atletico Madrid, but linked up with his international team-mates on Thursday carrying a fresh injury.

The forward was one of five players named on Portugals official website that were forced to remain on the sidelines four of whom were nursing thigh injuries.

A brief statement said Ronaldo was suffering from myalgia (pain) in the posterior region of his left thigh and underwent specific rehabilitation work at the team hotel.

He was joined there by Raul Meireles, Hugo Almeida, Rubon Amorim and Joao Moutinho, as Portugal prepare for their latest pre-World Cup friendly against Greece on Saturday.

None of these players are believed to be serious doubts for the tournament, though there will be concerns over Ronaldo given the Seleccaos reliance on the forward during qualification.

The reigning Ballon dOr winner scored a hat-trick in the second-leg of their World Cup play-off with Sweden to almost single-handedly fire Paulo Bentos men to Brazil.

Portugal will need him at his brilliant best if they are to advance from a tough group containing Germany, USA and Ghana.

Their World Cup campaign kicks off with a clash against Germany on June 16.{GOAL}
